Where Domluca Coffee plays a starring role!
First opened on 15 April 1911 as a multi-purpose entertainment hall featuring roller skating, live music and theatre, this stylish historic building was transformed into an elegant cinema in 1921.
Though the building went through some hard times, including two world wars and numerous attempts by the council to knock it down to redevelop the area, The Dome survived thanks to local support, and was lucky enough to secure lottery and heritage funding in 2005, allowing full restoration.
In 1987, The Dome featured in David Leland’s critical hit Wish You Were Here, starring Emily Lloyd and Tom Bell. Much of the film was set in The Dome, including in the main cinema, the projection room and the Dome itself.
On the ground floor of The Dome you’ll find the movie-themed Projectionist’s Bar which serves as an attractive café where Domluca coffee is served.
